Learn to identify the important feature
A checker-play puzzle can test whether you recognise an escape, a point-making opportunity or the need to preserve timing. A cube puzzle tests the relationship between the position, score and available cube actions. In both cases, identifying what matters is more useful than guessing a move.
Before answering, describe the race, the contact and the strength of each home board. For a cube decision, add cube ownership and match score. This short assessment helps prevent a familiar-looking board from triggering the wrong memorised response.
How the signed-in feature works
Inside BlitzGammon, players can choose an answer to the Daily Puzzle and then review the available result and analysis. The feature includes vote summaries so you can compare your choice with other players’ choices. A popular answer is not necessarily the strongest play.
Use the analysis after making your own decision. If your answer differs, ask what positional feature you missed before trying to memorise the recommendation. Checker and cube puzzles ask different questions, so read the prompt and the match context carefully.
Turn one decision into a practice routine
Write down two plausible choices and one reason for each. Make your selection, read the feedback and summarise the lesson in one sentence. The next time you see a similar structure in a game, pause and test whether that lesson still applies.
For example, a general lesson might be to check escape urgency before making another attacking point, or to look for market-losing sequences before rolling. These are study prompts, not answers to any current or past BlitzGammon puzzle.
- Choose independently before looking at feedback.
- Compare the plans, not just the move notation.
- Use a related learning guide to investigate unfamiliar concepts.
